Abstract Art by Dana Bettger
Welcome to my world—I am Dana Bettger, a self-taught abstract artist whose journey has been as transformative as the artwork I create.
Born in Germany into a lively military family with nine siblings, my early life was filled with movement, discipline, and the companionship of beloved pets. Although art was not part of my childhood, my habit of quietly observing people and emotions shaped the lens through which I now see and express the world.
At 52, I experienced an unexpected artistic awakening. With no formal training or family background in the arts, I relied on intuition to guide me. Painting quickly became more than a pastime, it was a lifeline, giving me the means to channel decades of emotional understanding into vivid visual stories.

Thank you for acknowledging my artwork. As a self-taught abstract artist, I find purpose and comfort in creating vibrant, textured pieces that express my emotions and experiences.
My experiences as a Victim Advocate have shaped my journey as an artist. For over 25 years, I have worked with survivors of crime and their families, directly witnessing not only their intense suffering but also their remarkable resilience and strength.
These experiences have left an indelible mark on me, teaching me about both the weight of suffering and the incredible strength that can emerge from it. Each brushstroke is informed by the empathy and understanding I have gained, and painting has often been a way to process what words cannot express.
This deep understanding of resilience inspired me to bring my artwork into our workspace, hoping it might offer comfort to those who visit. I began hanging my paintings on the once-empty walls of our Victim Services Section, not realizing the transformation that would unfold. Over time, our office evolved into its own “Art Gallery,” filled with color, energy, and hope.
Every painting is both an act of healing and a conversation. Sometimes, the simple rhythm of layering paint helps me process a difficult day. Other times, the feedback from someone who feels seen or soothed by a work affirms why I continue. Art, for me, is a bridge—connecting us through shared experience and unspoken understanding.
As I continue this journey, I invite you to explore my gallery and join me in discovering the small moments of hope and healing that art can offer—one brushstroke at a time. Thank you for being a part of this ongoing story.
